8 fun activities to do with your kids at home
I don’t know about everyone else but this self-isolation has my children bord. These are some of the activities I am doing with my children to keep them busy, safe, and happy. I hope this helps other mothers. I hope everyone is keeping safe.
1.Hard Rock Candy Hard
You will need
3 drinking straws
3 cloth peg
1 cup of Water
3 cup of Sugar
Food coloring
- Bring 1 cup of water to boil
- Add 3 cups of sugar to the boiling water add ½ a cup at a time
- Let it boil then remove from the stove and let it cool
- Take out 2 straws and cut them in half. You should end up with 4
- Use 3 of the short straws.
- Dip them in water and then roll them in sugar and let them dry
- Check water and sugar solution to see if it has cooled down
- Take out 3 shout drinking glasses and drop what colors you like in each on then;
- Fill them with the cold solution and mix well
- Place the 3 sugar straws in each of the drinking glasses
- Lift the straw a beat to hang to give the candy crystal room to grow
- Hang them up with a laundry peg.
- Let them sit for 5 days then carefully remove then with a spoon or run hot water on the bottom of the glass
2.Liquid float and sink
You will need
Colored water
Syrup
spoon
Vegetable oil
Large clear container, you can use a tall drinking glasses
Objects to float:
2 Grape
2 Small tomatoes
2 penne
2 hex nut
- Pour syrup into a clear container about a quarter full. Is better when you pour your syrup directly over the back of a sponge
- Slowly pour the same amount of oil in the clear container
- Then add the same amount of colored water
Then have your children take turns dropping the above object in the liquid and watch
the object floats at a different level. They will float until they reach what is higher density than
Them then stop
3.Flubber
You will need
¾ cup of cold water
1 Cup Elmer’s glue
Liquid food Coloring
½ cup of hot water
1 teaspoon of Borax
Direction:
- In a bowl mix glue, cold water, and food color.
- In a separate bowl mix together hot water and borax.
- Then slowly add glue mixture to borax, mix well; pour off excess water
4. Make your own ice cream:
You will need
Cream
Ice cubes
Dishtowel
Chocolate milk powder
Salt
Large bowl
Tablespoon
Glass
Milk
- Mix together 1 TBSP of chocolate milk powder, 2 TBSP of milk and 1 TBSP of cream in a glass.
- In a large bowl add about 6 ice cubes and sprinkle salt on the ice cubes
- Place your ice cream mixture on top of the salted ice cubes.
- Then add more salted ices cubes around the glass until you reach the top then stop
- Cover the bowl with a dish towel to stop heat from melting the ice
- Stir every few mins for 1 hour
- Then remove from the bowl and try your homemade ice cream
5. Basic slime
You will need
2 bowls
spatula
¼ tsp of Borax power
½ Elmer’s School Glue
1 cup of Water
2 drops scented oil
Glitter
- In one bowl mix ½ Cup of water and ½ Cup of Elmer’s glue
- In another bowl mix ½ cup of water and ¼ tsp of borax until it completely dissolved
- Then slowly add borax mixture to the glue mixture and mix with a spatula as you add
- Place in a ziplock bag for storage after each playtime
6. Bath Bomb
You will need
Rubber bath bomb Mold.
Bowl
Spatula
Empty spray bottle
Ingredient:
½ cup of cornstarch
½ cup of citric acid
½ cup of Epsom salts
1 cup of baking soda
2 tsp of essential oil
1 tsp of oil
Food color
Glitter or rose petals for decoration
- In a bowl put together all the dry ingredients
- Then add oil, essential oil and food color
- Add water slowly using spray bottle until it feels like a wet sound
- Drop rose petal or glitter on the rubber mold (optional)
- Put bath bomb mixture in a rubber mold for 8 hours or more, then remove them from the mold and is ready
7.Drawing
You will need
Pencil or marker
Printing paper
Simple and effective.

- Your children can follow along.
8. Invisible Ink
You will need
¼ cup of water
3 TSP baking soda
2 TSP of grape juice
- In a small bowl mix water and baking soda together
- Then use a paintbrush or cotton swab to write a message on a piece of paper.
- Let it dry completely.
- In another bowl, put 2 TSP of grape juices.
- Use a sponge, dip it in the grape juice and pat it over your message.
- Then you should be able to see your message
